Springfield, Mass. - June 12, 2017 - Former standout gymnasts Ty Evans '12 and Abby Clark '15 will represent Springfield College in Season 9 of American Ninja Warrior, an American sports entertainment competition, that will premiere on Monday, June 12 on NBC.
Evans, a native of San Jose, Calif., recently competed in the Los Angeles, Calif. Qualifier, which will be aired on Monday, June 12, while Clark competed in the Cleveland, Ohio Qualifier, which will be aired on Monday, July 10.
American Ninja Warrior features hundreds of competitors attempting to complete a series of obstacle courses of increasing difficulty, trying to make it to the national finals on the Las Vegas Strip, in hopes of becoming an "American Ninja Warrior".
As a freshman at Springfield College in 2009, Evans became the Pride's first national champion since 2004 when he captured the national title on the vault at the USAG Championships. In 2010, Evans continued to excel on the national level as he became the first Springfield College men's gymnast since 2002 to advance to the second day of the NCAA Division I Men's Gymnastics Championships.
Wrapping up his career at Springfield College, Evans would go on to compete in both the 2010 Visa Championships, a meet consisting of Division I men's gymnasts and Olympic medalists, and the 2012 Winter Cup, as he rotated with the USA Men's Gymnastics Elite.
In 2015, Clark finished her career at Springfield College in impressive fashion, as she claimed a National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) National Championship on the balance beam. Clark tied her school record mark of 9.775 as she became the first Springfield College women's gymnast to ever win a national title on beam, and became just the eighth individual national champion in program history.
Clark, a four-time national qualifier, earned a pair of All-America accolades during her time with a the Pride, as in addition to collecting All-America honors on the beam in 2015, the Holderness, N.H. native claimed All-America honors in the all-around competition as a sophomore in 2013.
