Springfield, Mass. - June 13, 2018 - With heavy hearts, Springfield College mourns the passing of Alex Blais, an honorary teammate of the men's lacrosse program that was partnered with the Pride via Team IMPACT. Alex, a 12-year-old boy from East Longmeadow, Mass., had spent the last two seasons as an avid supporter of the Springfield College men's lacrosse team amidst his long and courageous battle with brain cancer.
"Alex was such a great teammate," reflected head men's lacrosse coach Keith Bugbee. "He was such a fighter and always remained positive throughout his battle. Our program benefitted so much from spending time with Alex and we can only hope that his experience with us benefitted him the same. He and his family are such an inspiration to all of us. Please keep them in all of your prayers."
Alex became a part of the Springfield College family in the spring of 2017 via Team IMPACT, and has been a dedicated supporter of the team over the past two seasons. A national non-profit organization, Team IMPACT connects children facing serious and chronic illnesses with local college athletic teams, forming life-long bonds and life-changing outcomes.
Calling hours for Alex are from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 14 at the Forastiere Smith Family Funeral Home in East Longmeadow, Mass.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 15th at 8:30 a.m. from the funeral home with a Liturgy of Christian Burial celebrated at 10 a.m. in St. Michael's Church. Alex will be laid to rest in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Springfield, Mass.
