Bainter and Giorgio Named to D3football.com All-East Region First Team

Springfield, Mass. - December 4, 2018 - For the second-straight season, the Springfield College football program had a pair of student-athletes named to the D3football.com All-East Region First Team following impressive campaigns with the Pride.

Nick Giorgio (Cumberland, R.I.) was one of four defensive lineman chosen to the first team, while Nick Bainter (East Bridgewater, Mass.) was among the five offensive lineman selected to the first team.  This marks just the second time in program history that Springfield has had multiple first-team selections, while Giorgio becomes just the second Springfield football player to earn multiple first-team accolades, joining Max Nacewicz, who was honored in 2012 and 2015.

The teams, selected in balloting by East Region sports information directors and D3football.com staff, were chosen from 328 nominations by full Division III member schools, and a total of 78 players were chosen. Players nominated for All-Region are eligible to be considered for D3football.com All-America honors, which will be announced the evening of Dec. 14, in D3football.com's pregame coverage for Stagg Bowl XLV.

Following a sensational senior season, Giorgio again landed a spot on the all-region team as one of the most dynamic defensive ends in the country.  One of 13 semifinalists for the Gagliardi National Player of the Year Trophy, the Business Management major has received a number of postseason honors this season, including the Gridrion Club of Greater Boston's Division II/III New England Defensive Player of the Year and the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Defensive Athlete of the Year.  He totaled 82 tackles, including 29 tackles-for-loss and 14 sacks, to go along with four forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and two blocked kicks.  He ranks second among all active college football players for career tackles-for-loss per game (1.91), is the Division III active leader for career forced fumbles (9), while his 82 tackles was the third most for a defensive end in Division III football this year.

Bainter became the first center in Springfield College football history to earn the first-team all-region recognition from D3football.com.  The junior Criminal Justice major helped power Springfield to the nation's seventh-best rushing attack as the Pride averaged over 295 rushing yards per game and ranked first in the country yards per completion (19.12 ypc).  A NEWMAC All-Conference First Team selection for the second-straight year, Bainter was a 2018 D3football.com Preseason All-America Third Team and one of just three centers from the east to garner the postseason nod.  Springfield had registered 18 wins in the last two seasons with Bainter as the starting center, the program's most over a two-year span since 2003-04.
