Men's Basketball Receiving Votes In D3hoops.com National Poll

Springfield, Mass. - December 5, 2017 - For the first time since 2014, the Springfield College men's basketball team is receiving votes in the latest D3hoops.com Men's Basketball Top 25 Poll.

The Pride is one of only 34 teams among the 416 Division III basketball programs across the country to have an unblemished record.  In this week's national poll, Springfield is one of 12 from New England to be mentioned, and one of seven in the receiving votes section.  In fact, five teams from New England rank in the top 25.  Springfield last appeared in the rankings in Week 2 of the 2014-15 season when it was also receiving votes.

Springfield is off to a 4-0 start to kick off the 2017-18 campaign, marking the fourth time in the last seven seasons that the Pride has rattled off four-straight wins to being the season.  The Pride opened up the season with an 88-70 triumph over cross-town foe Western New England before besting a Keene State team that reached the NCAA Sweet 16 a season ago, 73-67.  Springfield then eased past Becker, 71-59, and most recently topped Westfield State, 66-55.

As a team, the Pride rank 10th in the nation in field-goal percentage defense, allowing opponents to shoot just 36.2% from the floor, while also ranking 13th in block shots per game (5.5.), 17th in scoring defense (62.8), and 19th in defensive rebounds per game (32.00).  Individually, Jake Ross (Northampton, Mass.) currently leads all of Division III in steals per game (4.25) and is also second nationally in defensive rebounds per game (10.5) and eighth in points per game (26.5).
