Claremont Mudd Scripps Defeats Men's Basketball In Chicago

Chicago, Ill. - November 18, 2018 - The Springfield College men's basketball was defeated by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, 85-64, at the Midway Classic, which was hosted by the University of Chicago, on Sunday afternoon.

The Pride, which was ranked No. 7 in the D3hoops.com National Preseason Poll, dropped to 2-2 on the year with the setback.  CMS entered the game receiving votes in the D3hoops.com National Preseason Poll.

Cam Earle (South Hadley, Mass.) paced the Pride with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting, including a perfect 4-for-4 from beyond the arc, in just 19 minutes of action.  Kevin Durkin (Worcester, Mass.) chipped in 14 points and five boards, while Heath Post (Cheshire, Conn.) totaled eight rebounds, seven points, and three helpers. Springfield was outscored in the paint, 44-18, and was bested on the boards by a 39-27 margin.  Despite shooting 40% from the floor (20-for-50) and 8-of-16 from deep, Springfield was just 16-for-27 from the charity stripe.

A jumper from Durkin at the 9:27 mark of the first half allowed the Pride to gain a 19-18 edge, but the Stags would erupt for a 22-4 burst over the next seven-plus minutes to gain a 17-point cushion at 40-23.  Durkin delivered a putback bucket in the final seconds of the opening stanza for the Pride to make it a 40-26 contest at the half.

CMS would push their lead to 20 just minutes into the second half and never look back to earn their first win of the season.

Springfield will regroup and look to get back to its winning ways versus Becker on Tuesday, Nov. 27.
