No. 15 Men’s Lacrosse Edges No. 17 Endicott, 13-12, In Double Overtime Thriller

Clermont, Fla. – March 19, 2014 – Senior Ryon Lynch (Frederick, Md.) netted his third goal of the game with 2:06 remaining in the second overtime to propel the Springfield College men’s lacrosse team to a thrilling 13-12 win over Endicott on Wednesday afternoon.

Springfield, ranked 15th in the country in this week’s USILA National poll, improves to 5-1, while the 17th-ranked Gulls fall to 4-2.

10 different members of the Pride found the back of the cage in the win, with Lynch pacing the offense with three goals and two assists. Branden Fernandez (Warwick, N.Y.) picked up eight ground balls, and Connor Nash (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) registered 16 saves to earn the win in goal.

Endicott jumped all over the Pride from the opening whistle, taking a 5-0 lead just 5:15 into the contest. However, Springfield responded with six unanswered goals from five goal scorers to take its first lead of the game on a Brendan Boss (West Springfield, Mass.) bounce shot with 9:07 left in the first half.

The Gulls answered back with three-straight goals, including consecutive markers from Jonathan Morgan, to regain a 8-6 cushion just under seven minutes into the third. The teams each traded two goals each until the Pride reeled off three-straight, including consecutive man-up markers from Lynch and Joey Raniolo (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) put Springfield ahead 11-10 with 5:01 left in regulation.

Kyle Weber scored twice for Eddicott in a 1:31 span, only to have Lynch force overtime with his second of the game with just 1:05 in regulation.

After neither team scored in the first overtime, both Nash and Lynch came through huge in the second extra session to propel the Pride to win. Nash made a sensational stop on the doorstep at the 2:47 mark, setting up the game-winning strike from Lynch on a terrific feed from Dylan Sheehan (Massapequa, N.Y.).

The Pride will play again on Wednesday when it plays Bowdoin at UMass Lowell. Face off is at 7:30 pm.
