Men's Lacrosse Rallies Past Wheaton, 7-6

Norton, Mass. - April 22, 2017 - The Springfield College men's lacrosse team strung together six unanswered goals and held on for a 7-6 win over Wheaton in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, Springfield improved to 8-4, 3-1 in conference play.

Brendan Boss (West Springfield, Mass.) led the Pride with a pair of goals and Tom Hurley (Goffstown, N.H) added a goal and an assist, while Jake Reynolds (Scituate, Mass.) made 13 saves in goal.  The Pride held a 37-30 edge in shots for the game and won 11-of-17 face-offs.

The Lyons stormed out to a 3-0 lead and nearly held Springfield off the scoreboard for the entire first half until Boss buried a man-up strike with 47 seconds left in the second quarter.  The Pride then cut the lead to one at the half as Brendan Dooley (Setauket, N.Y.) beat the horn and found the back of the cage with three ticks on the clock.

Springfield controlled much of the third quarter, getting goals from Jack Vail (Franklin, Mass.) and Scott Rogers (Acton, Mass.) just under two minutes apart to take its first lead of the contest.  A pair of unassisted strikes from Duncan Preston (South Portland, Maine) and Hurley allowed Springfield to open up a 6-3 cushion with 11:37 remaining in regulation.  The teams would trade goals over the next 1:15 before Boss drilled an unassisted goal to push the lead back to three.

The Lyons made one last push, getting consecutive goals to make it a one-score game, only to have Reynolds seal the win with a save with 24 seconds left.

Springfield will now prepare to hit the road and face Clark for a 7pm contest next Wednesday evening.
