Middlebury, Vt. - December 9, 2017 - Competing for the final time this semester, the Springfield College men's swimming and diving team fell to host Middlebury College, 178-116, in the Middlebury Natatorium on Saturday.
Springfield got off to a great start with a win in the 200 medley relay as Sean Harnish (Middlebury, Conn.), Kent Parsons (Hamilton, Mass.), Tim DeCoste (Greenville, R.I.), and Sean Mitchell (Canton, Mass.) combined to swim a 1:38.44.
Harnish produced the fastest time in the 50 back with a 25.28, while Parsons took home first-place points in the 50 breast (27.57) and the 100 IM (55.06). Mitchell was the fastest swimmer in the 50 free after registering a 22.27, and later took third in the 100 free with a 50.21.
Parsons was the runner-up in the 100 breast in 1:00.32, while in the 1,000 free, Springfield's Nicholas Smith (Longmeadow, Mass.) took third in 10:36.82, as did Harnish in the 100 back (55.53). The Pride closed out the meet with a second-place showing in the 200 free relay thanks to the efforts of Mitchell, Smith, DeCoste, and Harnish, who produced a 1:31.07.
As he has all season, Connor Pennington (Monson, Mass.) dominated the diving events en route to a pair of victories. The first-year scored a 349.65 on the three-meter board, out-distancing the field by more than 120 points, while also recording a winning score of 329.25 on the one-meter.
The Pride will compete again on January 7 when it travels to face Babson College.
