Men's Swimming and Diving Kick Off Three-Day Ithaca Invitational

Ithaca, N.Y. - November 30, 2018 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team kicked off the three-day Ithaca Invitational on Friday night.

Springfield is in fourth among the 11-team field after the first day that was comprised of five events.  Cornell posted 509 points to lead the field, while SUNY Geneseo (328.5), Nazareth (213), Springfield (180), and Rochester (159) rounded out the top five. 

On the three-meter board, Connor Pennington (Monson, Mass.) was the runner-up among the 25 competitors as he delivered a score of 463.35 to pace the Pride's efforts.  Teammate Luca Brashear (Amherst, Mass.) also was impressive, taking fourth with a 435.55

In the 500 free, Erik Jensen (Hainesport, N.J.) put together an outstanding effort to clock in at 4:44.45 and finish sixth among the 65 student-athletes who competed in the event.   Sean Harnish (Middlebury, Conn.) also swam well for the Pride in the event, taking eighth place in 4:48.43.

Michael Allo (Newington, Conn.) had Springfield's best time in the 200 IM with a 2:04.45, while Sean Mitchell (Canton, Mass.) sprinted to a time of 22.47 in the 50 free. 

The evening concluded with 200 medley relay as Harnish, Anthony Soares (Worcester, Mass.), Jensen, and Mitchell combined to swim a 1:38.16.
