Men's Track and Field Kicks Off 2017-18 Hosting Springfield College Season Opener

Springfield, Mass. - December 2, 2017 - The Springfield College men's track and field team kicked off the indoor season in impressive fashion, as the Pride hosted a four-team meet featuring Williams College, Westfield State and Steven in the Field House on Saturday.

In the 60 meter dash, Tyler Hansen (Shelton, Conn.) posted the top time (7.12 seconds) in prelims, but posted a mark of 7.16 in the finals en route to a third-place finish in the event. The sophomore also collected a third-place finish in the 300 meter dash, as he clocked in at 36.89 seconds. In the 500 meter run, Kris Rhim (Philadelphia, Pa.) was the Pride's top finisher with a time of 1:10.46, finishing just ahead of Benjamin Batoosingh (Scarborough, Maine), who crossed the line in 1:11.50. 

Picking up right where he left off after cross country season, senior Jack Pinho (Prospect, Conn.) won the mile with a time of 4:19.72, finishing ahead of teammate Zack Guptill (New Milford, Conn.), who clocked in at 4:38.88. Finishing fourth in the race was Rich Linley (Newtown, Conn.), who had a career-best time of 4:50.34. The 4x400 relay team, which was a combination of Batoosingh, Hunter DuPont (Wynantskill, N.Y.), Kyle Fernandez (Holden, Mass.) and Erik King (Shrewsbury, Mass.) notched a time of 3:34.19, good for fourth in the event.

Junior Connor Strain (Longmeadow, Mass.) took third overall in the high jump, as he cleared 6 feet, 4 inches, as Kyle Kublbeck (Gardner, Mass.) finished fourth, clearing 6 feet, 2 inches. Jack Sheerin (Princeton Junction, N.J.) took third in the pole vault, clearing 12 feet, 11.5 inches, while in the long jump, Jarod Authier (Chicopee, Mass.) finished first, clearing 22 feet, 5 inches. Taking third in the long jump was Dante Curry (Torrington, Conn.) as he posted a distance of 20 feet, 9 inches, as Josh Silvester (Manchester, Conn.) and Stefan Porter (Lewiston, Maine) finished first and second in the triple jump. Silvester's mark of 44 feet, 3.25 inches won the event, while Porter took second with a jump of 42 feet, 8 inches.

Sophomore Tom Callis (Tolland, Conn.) took second in the shot put with a heave of 47 feet, 7.25 inches, while in the weight throw, Nick Blood (Denville, N.J.) took fifth with a heave of 44 feet, 1.5 inches.

Springfield College will return to action following winter break, as it will travel to Medford, Mass. for the Tufts Invitational on Saturday, January 13. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m.
