Springfield, Mass. - July 18, 2017 - Springfield College's Jonathan Rodriguez Lopez (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) has been named to the Puerto Rican Men's Volleyball National Team and will compete in the NORCECA XII Pan American Cup that will be played in Quebec, Canada from July 23-31.

Puerto Rico will participate in the Cup with 11 other national teams, including the United States, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Colombia, Venezuela, Costa Rica and Chile.  The top five finishers will earn a spot in the NORCECA Championship which will be played in Colorado Springs, Colorado in September.

"I'm so excited for Jonathan to represent Springfield College on the international stage and feel the same pride that I felt when I went to the Olympics this time last summer," said Springfield College head men's volleyball coach Charlie Sullivan.  "Jonathan has continued to develop during his time in our program and I'm certain he will take advantage of playing against some of the top talent in the world."

Rodriguez Lopez will be one of four middle blockers on the 14-man team comprised of some of the top talent on the island. The Business Management major had a strong year in the middle for the Pride as he helped lead Springfield to its 10th Division III national championship, including its fourth NCAA title in the past six years.  Appearing in 25 matches, Rodriguez Lopez totaled 100 kills at a .527 hitting percentage and led the team with 68 blocks, averaging .92 per set.
