Auburndale, Fla. - March 19, 2019 - The Springfield College baseball team dropped a 6-2 decision to Ramapo on Tuesday morning at a rainy Lake Myrtle Sports Complex, as the Pride fell to 3-3 overall and 3-2 on Spring Break.
Ramapo improved to 3-3 with the victory, as the Roadrunners, which went 35-15 and went to the NCAA Division III Championship Tournament Regional Finals a season ago, picked up its second win in Florida.
Freshman pitcher Mitch Wright (Clifton Park, N.Y.) got the nod and pitched 4.0 strong innings, allowing just five hits and three earned runs while striking out four. Wright took the loss, as Nick Naples (Berlin, Conn.) and Jacob Shpur (East Canaan, Conn.) both pitched 2.0 innings in relief.
At the plate, Cam Rivest (Agawam, Mass.) led the Pride with two of the maroon and white's six hits on the day, as Chad Shade (Pittsfield, Mass.) and Sage Bray (Fitchburg, Mass.) each had RBI in the setback.
Springfield College jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Brandon Russo (Lisbon, Conn.) walked and stole second, before Shade flew out to center, which was caught, but Russo tagged up and scored to give the Pride a 1-0 lead.
Ramapo answered with two in the bottom of the frame, and followed with one run in both the bottom of the fourth and bottom of the fifth to take a 4-1 advantage, but the Pride cut its deficit in half when Bray doubled to left center, scoring Ryan Smith (Millis, Mass.).
The Roadrunners would score another run in the bottom of the sixth, and follow with an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh to seal the 6-2 win over the Pride.
Next up, Springfield College will return to the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex on Wednesday, March 20 when it squares off with Nichols at 10:30 a.m.
