Springfield, Mass. - August 31, 2019 - The Springfield College field hockey team started the 2019 season with an impressive offensive showing as it powered past Bridgewater State, 10-0, on Saturday afternoon on Stagg Field.
Just one goal shy from the Springfield field hockey program record for goals in a game, this afternoon's game did feature a historic performance by first-year Carly Torrance (Concord, N.H.). In her collegiate debut, Torrance handed out four helpers, tying the previous record for assists in a game which was achieved twice last season by Amanda Nusbaum '19.
Springfield owned a 39-4 advantage in shots for the game and took 12 of the game's 14 penalty corners.
Morgan Bronk (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) set the tone early by scoring just 1:37 into the contest as the Pride managed to score four times in the first 6:10 of the game. Bronk was sensational all afternoon, totaling three goals and an assist, while Holly Rivers (Danbury, Conn.) finished the afternoon with a hat trick. First-year Grace Levansavich (Auburn, Mass.) also had an impressive collegiate debut by finding the back of the cage twice, Emma Wesoloski (South Deerfield, Mass.) was credited with two assists, and Kyra Ashe (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Taylor Conley (Yarmouthport, Mass.) each scored once.
Elizabeth Morehouse (North Attleboro, Mass.) needed to make just one save to earn her first-career victory. The duo of ReAnna Kenyon and Jillian Delaney combined for 19 stops for the visitors.
On Wednesday, Springfield will make the short trip to Western New England for a 4 pm contest.
