Springfield, Mass. – September 21, 2019- The Springfield College field hockey team picked up its fifth-consecutive win and eased past Elms College, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference tilt at Stagg Field.
Springfield improved to 6-1 with the victory, as it marks the first time that the Pride has won six of its first seven outings since the 2007 campaign, while Elms dropped to 1-5. The Pride controlled much of the game, holding 23-2 advantage shots and a 16-2 edge in the penalty corners.
Following a scoreless first quarter, Springfield jumped on the scoreboard with 4:36 remaining in the first half when Lily Depew (Acton, Mass.) scored from the top of circle off an assist from Morgan Bronk (Ballston Lake, N.Y.). The Pride struck again at the 28:19 mark after Kyra Ashe (Longmeadow, Mass.) got control of the ball in traffic and laid it off to Audrey Bresciano (Greenfield, Mass.) to give Springfield a 2-0 halftime lead.
After neither team scored in the third quarter, Taylor Conley (Yarmouth Port, Mass.) buried a shot into the back of the cage with 7:83 remaining in regulation. The final goal of the game came just over three minutes later when Conley took the ball down the left flank before finding Grace Majka (Simsbury, Conn.) for the strike.
Springfield will continue its six-game homestand on Wednesday at 6:00 when they face Williams College on Stagg Field.
