Worcester State Clips Field Hockey, 3-2
Worcester, Mass. - September 9, 2021 - The Springfield College field hockey team was bested for the first time in the 2021 campaign as Worcester State used a fourth-quarter goal to prevail by a 3-2 margin on Thursday evening on Coughlin Field.
The setback marked the first of the 2021 for the Pride as it slipped to 2-1, while the Lancers improved to 3-0 on the year.
For the game, Springfield held a 21-14 marging in shots, including a 9-2 edge in the final 15 minutes of play. The Pride also took seven of the game's eight penalty corners.
Lyndsey DeLasho (Croton on Hudson, N.Y.) was credited with seven stops in the cage for Springfield.
The hosts Lancers wasted little time scoring, netting the game's first goal at the 6:12 mark before doubling their advantage in the 12th minute of the contest.
Springfield responded with a goal just before the end of the first quarter as Aidan Bourbonnais (Southwick, Mass.) converted a Grace Levansavich (Auburn, Mass.) pass with 21 seconds left in the opening period.
The visitors would go on to knot the game up at two goals apiece at the 29:10 mark when Carly Torrance (Concord, N.H.) connected with Audrey Dolan (Westminster, Mass.) for the Pride's second goal of the evening. Neither team would score in the third quarter, but Worcester State would get back into the scoring column with the eventual game-winning marker just under two minutes into the fourth quarter to seal the non-conference win.
Springfield continues to play on the road when it heads to Eastern Connecticut State on Wednesday at 4 pm.
