Eastern Connecticut Edges Field Hockey, 2-1
Windham, Conn. - September 15, 2021 - The Springfield College field hockey team was defeated by Eastern Connecticut State, 2-1, in non-conference play on Wednesday afternoon. After winning their first two games of the 2021 campaign, Springfield has dropped its last two outings to even its record at 2-2.
The Warriors owned a 13-11 edge in shots for the contest, while the Pride took seven of the game's 10 penalty corners. Audrey Bresciano (Greenfield, Mass.) had five shots in the setback for the Pride.
Springfield scored the first goal of the contest just before the first quarter ended as Grace Levansavich (Auburn, Mass.) connect with Cait Kemp (Leicester, Mass.). However, the hosts would respond with a goal early in the second quarter when Brianna Nolan netted a strike in the 19th minute.
The team would remain tied up until late in the third quarter as the Warriors defense created a transition opportunity, and Sydney Collentine redirected a centering pass just inside the left post to put Eastern Connecticut on top for good at the 44:03 mark.
Lyndsey DeLasho (Croton on Hudson, N.Y.) tallied a career-high eight saves in goal for Springfield.
Springfield will begin New England and Women's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday evening when it travels to take on WPI at 7 pm.
