WPI Downs Field Hockey, 2-0
Worcester, Mass. - September 18, 2021 - The Springfield College field hockey team began New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday night and was downed by WPI, 2-0.
After winning its first two games of the season, Springfield has slipped to 2-3, 0-1 in conference play. The Engineers netted a pair of second half goals as they owned a 10-6 advantage in shots and a slight 4-3 edge in penalty corners.
Following a scoreless first half, WPI scored on their only shot of the third quarter when Lauren Dishong tipped in a Rachel Drasser centering pass in the 33rd minute. The hosts added an insurance goal at the 56:57 mark when Abigail Rauch made the most of a pass up the right lane from Eliza Dutson for the Engineers second goal of the night.
Lyndsey DeLasho (Croton on Hudson, N.Y.) was credited with five saves for Springfield in the loss.
The Pride will return to non-conference play on Tuesday night when it travels to Trinity for its fifth-straight road game. First whistle is slated for 6:00 pm.
