No. 11 Trinity Topples Field Hockey
Hartford, Conn. - September 21, 2021 - The Springfield College field hockey was bested by nationally-ranked Trinity College, 7-0, in a non-conference clash on Tuesday evening at Sheppard Field.
Springfield now carries a 2-4 record on the season, while Trinity, the nation's 11th-ranked team, improved to 5-0 in the 2021 campaign.
Lyndsey DeLasho (Croton on Hudson, N.Y.) collected a career-high 14 saves in the setback.
Trinity took control early, beginning with the first goal by Jackie Frank, who scored on a rebound off a saved shot 32 seconds into the contest. Frank fed Caelin Flaherty on the second goal 4:49 into the opening quarter and Flaherty assisted India Shay for the third marker at the quarter's midpoint. Shay scored again with 4:56 on the clock and Trinity led, 4-0, at the first break.
Springfield held the Bantams scoreless in the second frame by blocking several shots, while DeLasho added four more saves over the quarter. After a penalty corner set up the offense, Grace Majka (Simsbury, Conn.) looked to find the back of the net, but clipped the post, keeping Springfield's deficit at 4-0 with less than two minutes left in the half.
Trinity used a three-goal third quarter to extend their lead to 7-0 and hand the Pride the non-conference loss.
After three weeks on the road, Springfield will return to Stagg Field on Saturday for a 1 pm contest when it hosts MIT in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.
