MIT Upends Field Hockey
Springfield, Mass. - September 25, 2021 - The Springfield College field hockey team was bested by MIT, 6-0, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest on Saturday afternoon on Stagg Field.
Playing at home for the first time in three weeks, Springfield slipped to 2-5, 0-2 in conference play. The Engineers improved to 5-3, 2-0. Paige Forester had a dynamic performance for the Engineers as she netted four goals, including three in the first half, to go along with an assist as she powered the visitors offense.
Forester opened up the game's scoring less than three minutes into the contest when she ripped a backhanded shot from seven yards out into the back of the cage. Less than two minutes later, Forester struck again, this time losing her defender and firing in a blast from the left wing.
MIT pushed its advantage to 3-0 when Forester completed her hat trick just 59 seconds into the second quarter, and the Engineers would head into the halftime break with a 4-0 lead as Liberty Ladd redirected a Forester blast in front of the cage in the 28th minute.
Ladd added her second of the contest in the 39th minute for the lone goal of the third quarter, and Forester followed up her own rebound for her fourth marker of the day in the 51st minute. Claire Munkacsi (Gorham, Maine) was credited with a pair of defensive saves in the fourth quarter to highlight Springfield's defensive efforts.
The Pride will host Endicott at 7 pm on Wednesday night in a non-conference matchup.
