Field Hockey Bests Nichols, 2-1
Dudley, Mass. - October 2, 2021 - The Springfield College field hockey team got back to its winning ways on Saturday as it prevailed in a 2-1 non-conference clash with Nichols.
The Pride improved to 3-6 on the year as it snapped its six-game losing skid with the victory. The Bison fell to 6-5.
Each team took 14 shots in the contest, while Springfield owned a slight 11-9 advantage in penalty corners. Lyndsey DeLasho (Croton on Hudson, N.Y.) totaled eight saves to earn the win in goal.
Springfield got off to a terrific start offensively, finding the back of the cage just 5:46 into the contest as Audrey Dolan (Westminster, Mass.) connected with Emma Wesoloski (South Deerfield, Mass.) for the game's first goal. The Bison would respond in the 19th minute, scoring on one of their seven second-quarter shots to tie the game following a strike by Ryan Mellor.
Midway through the fourth, Springfield would break through for the game-winner as Dolan once again factored in on the scoring, delivering a feed to Lauren Lemay (Shrewsbury, Mass.) for her first career marker which lifted the visitors to victory.
Springfield College will return to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Tuesday night when it travels to Wheaton for a 7 pm contest.
