Golf In Fifth Following First Day of Blazer Invitational

Belchertown, Mass. - October 9, 2021 - Coming off their second-place finish at last week's MASCAC Championships, the Springfield College golf team is in fifth after the opening round of the Blazers Fall Invitational, which was played on Cold Spring Country Club. 

Playing at the Par 71 course that measured 6,521 yards, Springfield turned in a first round score of 327 strokes and is fifth among the 14 teams in the tournament.

Leading the way was Aidan McBride (Ludlow, Mass.), as the junior carded a 75 after totaling 11 pars and making birdies on two of the final three holes.  Corey Roya (Manchester, Conn.) followed with a 78 as the senior posted a 38 on the opening nine holes with seven pars, while Nicholas DeMaio (West Springfield, Mass.) delivered an 83, as he made 10 pars on his round. 

Jack Shane (Hamden, Conn.) tallied a 91 on the day as he went out with a 41 through the first nine, and Damon Monks (Woburn, Mass.) produced a 93, which included a 41 on the back nine.

Springfield will wrap up the two-day event on Sunday.
