Lewis Claims All-Around Title As Men's Gymnastics Finishes Third at Navy Open

Annapolis, Md. - January 19, 2019 - The Springfield College men's gymnastics team took third at the Navy Open on Saturday afternoon after they scored a 378.650.  Host Navy finished the afternoon with a 400.550 en route to claiming the team title, while William & Mary just edged Springfield as they took second with a 378.950.  Temple finished in fourth after totaling a 349.200.

Stephen Lewis (Baltimore, Md.) was victorious in the all-around and scored a 77.8, which was bolstered by a team-best mark of 14.300 on the vault.  Lewis also registered a 13.650 on the rings, a 13.400 on the floor exercise, a 13.050 on the parallel bars, a 12.700 on the horizontal bar, and a 10.700 on the pommel horse. 

Springfield started off the day on the pommel horse, and Jack Vollo (Rochester, N.Y.) turned in a career-best score of 13.1000, which was good enough for fifth in the competition. Nick Cramer (Lincoln, Neb.) added a score of 12.3500 as he finished in eighth. 

Lewis placed sixth on the rings, with Cramer again registering the Pride's next-best effort with a 12.750.  On the floor, Lewis tied for fourth, while teammate Trevor Lamberton (Willow Spring, N.C.) was credited with a 12.750 to finish in ninth place.

On the vault, Lewis was the runner up in the event and Lamberton took 11th with a 13.550, and the duo led Springfield on the parallel bars, as Lewis took 13th and Lamberton closely followed in 14th with a 13.20.  Lewis added a sixth-place finish on the horizontal bar and Jannik Haas (San Jose, Calif.) delivered a 12.350 en route to eighth place. 

 Springfield will compete again next Sunday when it hosts Army at 1 pm in Blake Arena.
