Beverly, Mass.—September 24, 2019—The Springfield College men's soccer program dropped a non-conference battle to Endicott College on Tuesday night at Melissa Hempstead Stadium, 2-1.
The setback makes the Pride's record 2-6-1 on the season, while Endicott improves to 3-3-1.
Springfield was outshot 23-12 by the Gulls attack in the matchup. Clayton Knibbs (Madison, Conn.) and Chris Prizio (Trumbull, Conn.) split time in net. Knibbs finished with four saves while Prizio collected two saves.
For most of the first 20 minutes, the Gulls pressed the Pride defense by rattling off nine shots with four coming on the net. Knibbs was able to swipe away all of the attempts. At 20:26, Jack Rosenberg (Simsbury, Conn.) weaved through the Gulls defense and found the back of the net to give Springfield the first lead of the game.
Just six minutes later, Endicott would respond with a goal of their own as Max Robbins would find Evan Couchot, evening the score at 1-1. Springfield would attempt to take the lead with less than three minutes remaining in the half, but the shot by Anthony Longo (Watertown, Conn.) would go wide. The score would remain 1-1 going into half.
In the second half, the pace would ramp up with each team registering double-digit shots for the period. The Pride would get attempts from Aiden Casinghino (Brimfield, Mass.) and Keith Dixon (Amherst, Mass.), but both were scooped up by Endicott's Zach Regulbuto.
In the 80th-minute, the Gulls would prove to score the game-winner when Couchot registered his second goal of the contest. Couchot finished the game with 11 shots, five coming on the goal.
Springfield will look to bounce back in NEWMAC play against Babson on Saturday, September 28 at 12 pm.
