Men's Soccer Earns 8-0 Shutout Win Over Sarah Lawrence
Yonkers, N.Y. - September 7, 2021 - The Springfield College men's soccer team cruised to a 8-0 shutout victory over Sarah Lawrence on Tuesday evening at Fleming Field in their second contest of the season.
Springfield now evens their record to 1-1, while Sarah Lawrence suffers their first loss of the 2021 campaign. The Pride had 14 shots on goal to go along with seven corner kicks over 90 minutes of action. The 8-0 victory marks the highest single-game goal total since the Pride beat Lasell, 9-1, in 2017.
Six players scored for Springfield in the contest. Andrew Ma (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) had a pair of second half goals to lead the Pride. Derick Arhin (South Windsor, Conn.), Sebastian Correia (West Warwick, R.I.), and Finn Welch (Williamstown, Mass.) all scored their first career goal in a Springfield uniform in the victory.
Springfield took the lead early in the first half as Arhin capitalized on a feed from Michael Tocci (Plymouth, Mass.) at the 7:04 mark to give the Pride a 1-0 lead. Springfield took a 3-0 lead after a penalty kick from Jack Rosenberg (Simsbury, Conn.), at 19:44, and an unassisted strike from Ethan Boileau (Branford, Conn.) at 24:45. At 28:57, Coreia added to the Pride's goal total in the first half with a low strike, pushing the lead to 4-0.
In the second half, Welch found an opening on the break and darted a shot past the keeper to make the score 5-0 with 30 minutes to play. After back-to-back goals from Ma, Timothy Brereton (Staten Island, N.Y.) scored off a penalty kick at 83:46 to cap off the victory for Springfield.
The Pride will host Stevens at Brock-Affleck Field on Sunday at 6pm.
