Men's Soccer Claims 4-0 Win Over Westfield State

Westfield, Mass. - September 11, 2021 - The Springfield College men's soccer program notched their second-straight win of the season as the Pride beat Westfield State, 4-0, on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.

Springfield, who has scored 12 goals over the last two wins, now boasts a record of 2-1. Westfield evens out to 2-2. Springfield rattled off 25 shots and held the advantage in corner kicks with eight.

Finn Welch (Williamstown, Mass.) scored a pair of goals for Springfield, while Derick Arhin (South Windsor, Conn.) and Koul Majok (Lynn, Mass.) added markers to round out the offense for the Pride. Clayton Knibbs (Madison, Conn.) was credited with the victory after saving the two shots he faced on goal.

Emilio Mancuso saved nine shots for the Owls in the setback.

With 28:53 remaining in the first half, Andrew Ma (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) had a shot batted away by Mancuso, but Welch corralled the richoet and scored the Pride's first goal of the afternoon. Midway through the 16-minute mark, Patrick Silva (Pittsfield, Mass.) set a cross into Arhin, who put a series of moves on the Owls's defense to free himself up for the score to give Springfield a 2-0 lead.

Nearing the 40-minute mark in the second half, Westfield State made strong effort on a Maitoe Suppasuesanguan (Bangpongpang, Yannawa, Bangkok) for a team save, but again Welch pumped in a goal of the rebound, pushing the lead to 3-0. Majok capped off the win for the Pride, with 15 minutes remaining, as the first-year stuck a shot in the bottom corner to give Springfield a 4-0 advantage.

Springfield hosts Stevens on Sunday at Brock-Affleck at 6:00.
