Men's Soccer Tripped Up By Stevens, 2-0
Springfield, Mass. - September 12, 2021 - The Springfield College mens soccer program fell to Stevens in 2-0 in a non-conference matchup on Sunday evening at Brock-Affleck Field.
Springfield carries a 2-2 record thus far, while Stevens climbs to 3-1-1. This was the second game of a back-to-back for the Pride, after it shutout Westfield State on Saturday afternoon. Springfield took seven shots in the contest while both Stevens and Springfield took four corner kicks.
Clayton Knibbs (Madison, Conn.) had three saves in the setback.
At 5:08, Michael Tocci (Plymouth, Mass.) looked to give Springfield the early advantage with shot from outside the box, but it rang off the cross bar. The Pride backline clamped down on the Ducks' attack for much of the first half, tallying three blocked shots over the first 15 minutes. Just before the end of the half, Fritz Kabeiseman knock in a goal for the Ducks off a free kick feed from Grant Conaghan to give the vistors a 1-0 lead after 45 minutes of play.
In the second half, Stevens claimed their second goal of the contest as Emerson Kuzemka found the ball in front of a crowded goal and snuck it in for the 2-0 strike. Springfield looked to cut into the deficit with strong efforts by Maitoe Suppasuesanguan (Bangpongpang, Yannawa, Bangkok) and Timothy Brereton (Staten Island, N.Y.), but the Ducks were able to hold on for the victory.
Springfield returns to action on Saturday as the Pride host Emerson at 12pm.
