Men's Soccer Falls To WPI, 2-0
Worcester, Mass. - October 2, 2021. - The Springfield College men's soccer program dropped a road contest to WPI, 2-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.
Springfield is handed their first loss in NEWMAC play and hold a 5-4 record overall on the season, while WPI is 6-3-1 on the season with a 1-0 conference record.
Clayton Knibbs (Madison, Conn.) registered three saves in the setback.
Springfield ripped off four shots in the first ten minutes of play, led by three attempts from Jack Rosenberg (Simsbury, Conn.). Despite promising opportunities, the Pride remained in a scoreless tie with WPI for nearly the entire first half, until the Engineers scored in the 45th-minute of the first half. Ryan Dalton collected a clear from Hendrick and dished to Aaron Vaz, who gain separation and scored the first goal of the game just before the half to give WPI a 1-0 lead.
The Engineers boosted their lead to 2-0 at 58:0, as Anthony Previte gathered a blocked shot and tapped in the score for WPI. Springfield would make a strong effort to cut into the Engineer lead in the 83rd-minute, as Derick Arhin (South Windsor, Conn.) would squeeze a pass into the box for Aiden Casinghino (Brimfield, Conn.) for the shot, but Matt Biando would just stop the shot for the defensive save and allowing WPI to take the win. The Pride took eight shots in the second half of the setback.
Springfield returns to action on Tuesday, October 5 with a home match against Endicott at 7pm.
