Men's Soccer Delivers 2-0 Shutout Victory Over Endicott

Springfield, Mass. - October 5, 2021- The Springfield College men's soccer program earned a 2-0 non-conference victory over Endicott College on Tuesday night at Brock-Affleck Field.

Springfield now jumps to 6-4 on the season while Endicott drops to 3-5-2. The victory marks the fifth shutout win for Springfield this season. The Pride outshot the Gulls, 20-11.

Endicott opened the first half with a pair of corner kicks in the sixth-minute, which resulted in strong scoring attempts, but Clayton Knibbs (Madison, Conn.) intercepted each try to keep the score at 0-0. Springfield would get their best chance of the half at 39:26, as Aiden Casinghino (Brimfield, Mass.) broke free from the Gulls defense and looked for a chip-in try that would give the Pride the lead, but Endicott netminder Zach Regulbuto would get a finger on it and deflect it away. Strong play defensively from each side kept the score at 0-0 entering the the break.

In the 48th-minute, the Gulls would, again, seek an early advantage as Joe Cusack ripped a shot from outside the box on the right, however, Knibbs would make an impressive effort to punch the ball away to preserve the scoreless tie. Springfield would eventually take a 1-0 lead in the 73rd-minute as Sebastian Correia (West Warwick, R.I.) collected a through ball and rifled it towards the goal which was deflected in by a Gulls defender. The Pride would cap off the victory with penalty kick goal from Jack Rosenberg (Simsbury, Conn.) in the 88th-minute, which pushed the final score to 2-0 in favor of Springfield.

Springfield will next travel to Wheaton College on Saturday, October 9 for a 2pm NEWMAC matchup with the Lyons.
