Springfield, Mass. - December 8, 2018 - The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team closed out the first semester as it suffered a 156-138 setback to Middlebury College on Saturday afternoon in the Art Linkletter Natatorium.
The Pride raced to a win in the 200 medley relay in the begin the afternoon as Sean Harnish (Middlebury, Conn.), Anthony Soares (Worcester, Mass.), Andy Endress (Belchertown, Mass.), and Sean Mitchell (Canton, Mass.) in a 1:39.20.
Connor Pennington (Monson, Mass.) swept the diving events with two nationally-qualifying marks as he registered a 340.88 on the three meter board and a 310.80 on the one meter.
Highlighting the Pride's efforts in the pool was Erik Jensen (Hainesport, N.J.), who earned three individuals victories on the afternoon, winning in the 1,000 free with a 10:07.51, the 100 fly in 54.19, and 4:55.46 in the 500 free. In the 100 free, Mitchell sprinted to a second-place finish with a 49.92 and also finished third in the 50 free with a time of 22.55. Endress would place third in a tight race for the 50 fly as he clocked at 24.98.
Nicholas Smith (Longmeadow, Mass.) was victorious in the 200 free after touching in 1:48.79, while Harnish was the runner up in the 50 back and third in the 100 back with a 25.49 and 56.09. Soares also placed third in the 50 breast with a 28.50.
To end the day for the Pride, the team of Tim DeCoste (Greenville, R.I.), Harnish, Mitchell, and Jensen touched in with a time of 1:29.78 in the 200 freestyle relay to finish as the runner up.
Springfield will be in action again on Saturday, January 12, as the Pride travel to Oneonta, N.Y. to compete in a tri-meet against Hartwick and Union.
