Men's Swimming and Diving In Fourth After Second Day of NEWMAC Championships

Worcester, Mass. - February 22, 2019 - After two days of competition, the Springfield College men's swimming and diving team is in fourth place at the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships held at WPI. 

As a team, Springfield has 221 points, and trails MIT (517), Coast Guard (439), and WPI (235).

Springfield's 200 free relay opened up the evening's finals session and Sean Mitchell (Canton, Mass.), Erik Jensen (Hainesport, N.J.), Anthony Soares (Worcester, Mass.), and Nicholas Smith (Longmeadow, Mass.) posted a 1:28.40 to finish in sixth. 

Jensen just missed out on a school record in the 500 free as he took fifth with a 4:37.72.  The fastest time in program history in the event came in 2017 from Austin Von Herringen, who tallied a 4:37.28. 

Michael Allo (Newington, Conn.) had the Pride's best time in the 200 IM with a 2:03.91 and Mitchell turned in a 22.00 in the 50 free.  The 400 medley relay closed out the evening, and Sean Harnish (Middlebury, Conn.), Soares, Jensen, and Mitchell combined for a 3:33.67 to place sixth.
