Northfield, Vt. - March 31, 2019 - Each member of the Springfield College men's tennis team factored in on a point on Sunday as it defeated Norwich University by a score of 8-1 in non-conference action.
Springfield picked up its second victory of the week and improved its record to 3-4.
In doubles play, Springfield earned all three points and the No. 2 team of Freddie Moffa (Granby, Conn.) and Jack Anastopoulos (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) were first off the courts with an 8-3 win, followed by Springfield's No. 1 team of Court Honda (Morioka, Japan) and Drew DeLorenzo(Burnt Hills, N.Y.) who prevailed, 8-6. The Pride wrapped up doubles action when the No. 3 squad of Hieu Ton (Rocky Hill, Conn.) and James Foley (Fair Haven, N.J.) battled their way to an 8-7 (5) triumph.
Honda eased his way to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles to keep things rolling for the Pride, and Moffa clinched the win after earning a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 3. Anastopoulos later added a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4, while Lucas Van Deventer (Ellington, Conn.) grinded out a 7-6 (1), 6-2 win at No. 5, and Ton rallied for a 5-7, 6-2, 11-9 win at No. 6.
The Pride will finish off its six-match road swing at Coast Guard in its New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener on Wednesday at 4 pm.
