Springfield, Mass. - April 3, 2021 - Competing for the first time in 585 days, the Springfield College men's tennis team returned to Appleton Courts and was bested by Coast Guard, 9-0, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest on Saturday.
Springfield slipped to 0-1 on the year as the played for the first time since a 6-3 win over Endicott on October 6, 2019.
Fabian Jensen (Stavanger, Norway) and James Foley (Fair Haven, N.J.) were downed by an 8-3 decision in the No. 1 spot in doubles play, while David Kilburn (West Roxbury, Mass.) and Lucas Van Deventer (Ellington, Conn.) fell by an 8-2 decision at No. 2.
In singles play, Jensen competed in the No. 1 position for Springfield and was clipped, 6-3, 6-1, while Kilburn was edged 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5 and Van Deventer suffered a 6-0, 6-3 setback at No. 4.
Springfield will take the courts again on April 17 when it travels to take on Clark for an 11 am match.
