Men's Cross Country Takes First at Early Bird Invitational
Keene, N.H. - September 4, 2021 - The Springfield College men's cross country team earned the top spot at the Early Bird Invitational hosted by Keene State College on Saturday.
Springfield shined in their first competitive event in nearly two years as the Pride had four runners finish in the top ten of the race. Springfield notched 41 points, wile Assumption College finished second, followed by Westfield State, Worcester State, and Keene State.
John DeRosa (Shelton, Conn.) registered the Pride's best overall mark with a time 15:43.60, which placed the senior fourth overall in the race. Chris Vayda (Southampton, Mass.) cruised to a fifth overall finish at 16:00.60 while Russell Allen (Auburn, Maine) clocked a time of 16:24.3, bettering his previous time of 16:32.90 from the last Early Bird Invitational in 2019. In his first action of his Springfield College career, Ricky Perruzzi (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) put forth a strong effort and came away with a time of 16:33.20. Adam Mula (West Townsend, Mass.) turned in a time of 17:02.90, while Joe Wong (Salem, Mass.) put together a race time of 17:15.30 for the Pride.
Springfield will race again September 18 at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
