Men's Cross Country Takes Seventh at UMass Dartmouth Invitational
North Dartmouth, Mass. - September 18, 2021 - The Springfield College men's cross country team continued their strong start to the 2021 campaign as they produced a seventh-place finish at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Among the 32 teams in the field, Springfield put together the seventh-best point total, accumulating 278 points as the Pride's top five runners all placed inside the top 75 point scorers. A total of 256 student-athletes ran in the men's varsity five-mile race.
Chris Vayda (Southampton, Mass.) had a tremendous showing for the Pride as the sophomore crossed the finish line in 24:52.40, the 12th-fastest time in the race. John DeRosa (Shelton, Conn.) delivered a 25:48.60 to finish in 41st, while Russell Allen (Auburn, Maine) turned in a time of 26:10.20 for 54th. Adam Mula (West Townsend, Mass.) registered a time of 26:26.70 and was closely followed by Ricky Perruzzi (Cape Elizabeth, Maine), who posted a 26:30.90. Rece Gobel (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) made his season debut with a 26:38.00 and Liam Murphy (Carmel, N.Y.) finished the five-mile race in 27:37.21. Joe Wong (Salem, Mass.) rounded out the Pride's runners with a 27:50.60.
Springfield will compete again next Saturday when it runs in the Purple Valley Classic in Williamstown.
