Men's Cross Country Races To Seventh-Place Finish At Purple Valley Classic

Williamstown, Mass. - September 25, 2021 - The Springfield College men's cross country program placed seventh in the Purple Valley Classic hosted by Williams College. 

Springfield tallied 215 points on the day as the Pride went up against four programs ranked in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Coaches' Poll, including No. 2 Williams College.  The Pride has continued to rise among teams in the region, as it finished 17th at this race in 2019, climbing 10 spots in just two years.  

John DeRosa (Shelton, Conn.) led the way for Springfield as the junior finished 26th overall with a time of 27:37.3. Chris Vayda (Southampton, Mass.) clocked in at 28:18.8 for the Pride, and first-year Ricky Perruzzi (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) delivered a strong effort with a 29:10.4 time.  Rece Gobel (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) registered a 29:28.7 finish and Adam Mula (West Townsend, Mass.) rounded out the top five finishes for Springfield on the day with a 29:51.2. 

Springfield will return to action October 9 in the James Earley Invitational.
