Women's Basketball Falls to Williams College, 68-46

Springfield, Mass - November 26,2019 - The Springfield College women's basketball team was defeated 68-46 by Williams College in Blake Arena on Tuesday evening.

Springfield now slips to 3-4 on the season. Williams improves to 5-0 on the season. Williams edged Springfield, 43-37, on the glass. 

Alex Goslin (South Windor, Conn.) led the Pride in score with 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting. First-year Sam Hourihan (Bridgewater, Mass.) pitched in six points, six boards, four assists, and a pair of blocks. Senior forward Taylor Hall (Tolland, Conn.) pulled down seven boards in 16 minutes of action. 

Williams was paced by the hot shooting of Emily Chang, who finished with 28 points on 10-of-20 shooting, with eight threes. Off the bench, Gabby Martin put together an 18-point night in the victory. 

 To start the contest, the Pride jumped out to a 6-2 lead on the Ephs following a jumper by Emily Jacques (Auburn, Maine) just under three minutes in. Williams College responded with a 14-7 run, fueled by a pair of threes from Chang, to take a 16-9 lead at the end of the quarter. 

In the second quarter, Springfield cut into the Ephs' lead, as at 7:15, Rachel Vinton (Holden, Mass.) kicked out to Grace Dzindolet (Holliston, Mass.) for a three-pointer that cut the Ephs' lead to just four at 18-14, forcing a timeout. On the very next possession, Carr would finish a drop-step to make it a two-point game. Both teams would continue to trade baskets in the final minutes of the half, with a pair of free throws giving the Ephs a 26-22 lead heading to the locker room.

At 8:03 in the third quarter, the Pride pulled within 26-25 off a Carr free throw. From there the Ephs would grow their lead to seven off a Meehan transition layup, just to have Hourihan respond with a smooth up-and-under on the next possession to keep it 39-34. Later, at 2:38, a three-pointer on the wing from Goslin would make it 41-37 deficit for the Pride. Williams would score on back-to-back posessions to lead the Pride 46-39, going into the fourth.

In the final period, the Ephs would open up the quarter with a 13-1 run that gave the visitors a 59-40 cushion. The early quarter surge would allow the Ephs to earn the victory with a 68-46 final score.  

The Pride return to action on Wednesday, December 4 as they host Stevens at 5:30 pm.
