Women's Gymnastics Earns Dual Meet Victory Over Cortland, 187.225-185.450

Cortland, N.Y. - February 24, 2019 - The Springfield College women's gymnastics team won the first of two dual meets it will have this season, as the Pride traveled to New York and defeated National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) East region foe Cortland, 187.225-185.450 on Sunday afternoon. 

Senior Jess Clemens (South Setauket, N.Y.) won the all-around competition with a combined score of 37.500, while Ali Rushlow (Worcester, Mass.) won vault with a 9.600 and Heather Gomes (Beverly, Mass.) tied for first in the floor exercise with a 9.650.

Springfield College started the day off on bars, and was led by a 9.300 from Clemens, as she was followed by Lena Morant (Gambrills, Md.), Alana Calabrese (West Hartford, Conn.) and Taylor Campagnone (Johnston, R.I.), who all produced a 9.150. 

Next, on vault, Rushlow led with a 9.600 to win the event, as Taylor Jackson (Ocean, N.J.) notched a 9.550, Gomes followed with a 9.450 and Tali Twomey (Cotuit, Mass.) registered a 9.400 to round out the meet's top five competitors. Clemens also posted a 9.300 in the rotation.

Moving to floor, Springfield College continued to build momentum, as the rotation combined for a 47.225, the Pride's highest of the day. Gomes was the Pride's top competitor with a career-best 9.650, while Campagnone was right behind her with a 9.575. Next was MacKenzie MacLeod (Kennebunk, Maine), who had an impressive 9.500, while Clemens was tabbed with a 9.475 for her routine. Victoria Gendreau (Warren, R.I.) rounded out the top five with a 9.025.

Lastly, on beam, Campagnone finished her strong meet with a 9.525, as she was followed by Gomes with a 9.475. Clemens came in with a 9.425, as she was followed by matching scores of 9.325 from Calabrese and Sara King (Maribor, Slovenia)

Up next, Springfield College will return home to Blake Arena and will host Rhode Island College for its senior meet, beginning at 1 p.m. The Pride will also be competing alongside the men's gymnastics team, who will be taking on Navy.
