Castleton, Vt.—October 1, 2019—The Springfield College women's soccer team erupted for a 6-1 victory over Castleton State in non-conference play at Dave Wolk Stadium.
The Pride jump to 6-2-1 on the season and Castleton State dips to 5-5 overall. The Pride rattled off 29 total shots in the game with 19 of them coming on frame.
Less than 90 seconds into the match, the Pride opened up the half with instant offense from Adalia Malick (Bristol, Conn.), who took the ball down field for the unassisted score giving Springfield an early 1-0 lead. Castleton would respond almost immediately to tie the game off the foot of Julia Carone.
In the 17th minute, Sara Swetland (Manchester, N.H.) would collect a feed from Kaleigh Dale (Mansfield, Conn.) and punch in a goal to give the Pride a 2-1 lead. From there, Swetland would pump in two more goals in the half helping balloon the lead to 4-1. In the 22nd-minute, Swetland would deliver a strike from just outside the 18, and at 26:57, Swetland buried her third goal of the contest, marking a career-high total for the Sports Biology major.
In the second half, the Pride offense continued to control the game. At 57:07, Dale would increase the Springfield lead to 5-1 off a feed from Nicole Morin-Trotta (Ashburnham, Mass.). At 71:38, Ashley Macdonald (Bristol, Conn.) would score the first goal of her Springfield career to cap off the 6-1 victory.
The Pride return to NEWMAC play on Saturday as they travel to play Mt. Holyoke at 12 pm.
