Women's Soccer Drops Non-Conference Clash To Williams, 4-0
Williamstown, Mass. - September 19, 2021 - Playing for the second time this weekend, the Springfield College women's soccer program fell on the road to Williams College on Sunday afternoon, 4-0.
The Pride now sit at 2-3 on the season, while Williams holds a 2-2-1 record. Springfield recorded nine shots and earned five corner kicks in the game. Amelia Harper (Taylorsville, Utah) recorded six saves in the setback.
Springfield looked for an advantage early as Kaleigh Dale (Mansfield, Conn.) put a shot on frame, at the 6:44 mark, but was swiped away from Chelsea Taylor. At 13:40, the Ephs would strike with a penalty kick from Mikayla Kappes to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. Moments later, Springfield would attempt to even the score with a pair of shots from Dale and Heather Jennato (Hookset, N.H.), which were both saved by Taylor. Williams would take a 2-0 lead, at the 19:51 mark, after Sam Phan knocked in a score. Springfield would close the half with a strong opportunities, but could not close the gap entering the break.
In the second half, Phan would give the Ephs her second goal of the game, making the deficit 3-0 for the Pride. Springfield received promising opportunities offensively, but the Ephs' were able to secure a late goal and push their lead to 4-0.
The Pride return to NEWMAC play as they travel to Wellesley next Saturday, September 25 for a 1 pm match.
