Women's Soccer Posts 2-0 Victory Over Wellesley
Wellesley, Mass. - September 25, 2021 - The Springfield College women's soccer program earned a 2-0 shutout victory over Wellesley in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternoon.
Springfield evens out to 3-3 and holds a 2-0 record in NEWMAC play, while Wellesley was handed their first loss of the season. The Pride were outshot by Wellesley, 13-8. Amelia Harper (Taylorsville, Utah) collected 10 saves in the victory.
Kaleigh Dale (Mansfield, Conn.) allowed the Pride to take an early 1-0 lead as the senior drilled a goal from just outside the box at the 3:02 mark in the first half. The Springfield defense only allowed the Blue to take two shots on goal in the first 45 minutes of action. At 30:43, Harper made a tremendous effort to perserve the Pride's lead on a try from Cindy Zeng, as the junior walled up a shot on the right side, which allowed Springfield to enter the break with a 1-0 lead.
The Pride would add to their advantage, in the 48th-minute, as Dale would set up Kellie Smith (Marshfield, Conn.) for the 2-0 strike. Wellesley would look to attack and cut into the deficit with 10 shots in the second half, but Harper would a rake in seven saves in the second half alone en route to a shutout victory for the Pride.
Springfield will host Castleton on Wednesday, September 29 at 6pm.
