Women's Soccer Delivers 3-0 Win Over Castleton In Home Opener

Springfield, Mass. - September 29, 2021-  The Springfield College women's soccer program notched their second consecutive shutout victory with a 3-0 win over Castleton State on Wednesday evening at Brock-Affleck Field.

Playing at home for the first time this season, Springfield lifted its record to 4-3 on the season as Castleton drops to 4-3-1. The Pride rattled off 17 shots on goal and earned 10 corner kicks.

Kaleigh Dale (Mansfield, Conn.) notched her fifth goal of the season in the victory, while Gaby Scott (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) notched a goal and an assist for the Pride in the victory. In net, Amelia Harper (Taylorsville, Utah) tallied three saves, while her counterpart Alex Benfatti registered 14 saves for Castleton in the setback.

Dale scored the Pride's first goal of the contest, as the senior took a feed from Kellie Smith (Marshfield, Mass.) and danced through two defenders to put Springfield ahead 1-0 in the 11th-minute. At 16:26, the Pride would take a 2-0 lead as Adalia Malick (Bristol, Conn.) dished a corner kick into the box, in which, Smith headed in for the score. Malick put a shot on frame in the 29th-minute that would give the Pride a 3-0 lead, but Benfatti floated to the right and punched it away, keeping the Pride's lead at 2-0. Castleton would find a chance to attack in the 37th-minute, but Heather Jennato (Hookset, N.H.) would shield off the left side to preserve the 2-0 lead going into the half for the Pride.

Springfield would push their lead to 3-0, at the 55:06 mark in the second, as Karly Suppicich (South Windsor, Conn.) corralled a rebound and stuck it low past the keeper for the goal, which capped off the shutout victory.

The Pride will now turn to New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday when it hosts Coast Guard at 1 pm.
