Brunswick, Maine - October 1, 2021 - The Springfield College women's tennis team kicked off the 2021-22 campaign as it returned to the courts on Friday at the ITA New England Regional Championship at Bowdoin College.
Taylor Suozzo (Bedford, N.H.) had a great start to her collegiate career as she battled her way to a 2-6, 6-2, 7-6(9) win over Emily Hill from Colby-Sawyer. Suozzo rallied from a 7-2 deficit in the tiebacker en route to her 11-9 triumph. The first-year later went up against ninth-seeded Sahana Raman from Middlebury and dropped a 6-0, 6-0 decision while playing indoors.
In her second season with the Pride, Gabriella Heaney-Secord (Westwood, Mass.) started off her year with a 6-3, 7-5 triumph over Miriam Galindo Cerrada from Wheaton. Facing a 5-4 deficit in the second, Heaney-Secord broke serve and closed out the match with another break to pick up the victory. She then went up against Katherine Orgielewicz from Williams and was bested in a 7-5, 6-4 battle.
The Pride's doubles team of Ramida Manataweewat (Thailand, Bangkok) and Rielly Malz (Glastonbury, Conn.) put together a strong effort in their 8-1 setback to Carly Levitz and Lindsey Harnandez from Colby.
