Women's Tennis Prevails Over Nichols, 8-1
Springfield, Mass. - October 13, 2021 - Competing for the first time on the newly refurbished Appleton Courts, the Springfield College women's tennis team toppled Nichols, 8-1, on Wednesday afternoon.
It was a great start to the afternoon as Springfield cruised in doubles play to three victories. Rielly Malz (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Taylor Suozzo (Bedford, N.H.) set the tone with an 8-2 at the No. 2 spot, before Veronica Fulgieri (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and Juliana Herrera (Villavicencio, Colombia) posted an 8-3 at at No. 1. Ramida Manataweewat (Thailand, Bangkok) and Gabriella Heaney-Secord (Westford, Mass.) took the third doubles point for Springfield following their 8-4 at No. 3.
In singles play, Malz coasted to a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 4, while Suozzo followed with a 6-1, 6-4 victory at No. 5. Fulgieri posted an 6-2, 6-2 triumph at the No. 2 spot and Manataweewat battled her way to a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 3. Kate Rosselli (Trumbull, Conn.) had a strong showing at No. 6 as she rallied for a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 win to conclude the Pride's victories in singles play.
Springfield will compete again on Thursday when it takes on local-foe American International.
