Women's Volleyball Blanks Suffolk To Begin Union Invitational

Schenectady, N.Y. - September 10, 2021 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team produced a straight-set victory over Suffolk on Friday evening to in the Union Invitational by the set scores of 25-21, 25-15, 25-20.

The Pride, which was receiving votes in this week's AVCA Division III National Coaches Poll, improved to 5-0 on the season.

First-year Natalie Billet (Commack, N.Y.) led the way with a match-high 13 kills to go along with seven digs and four service aces.  Sara Labadorf (Huntersville, N.C.) distributed 25 assists and six digs.  Camryn Bancroft (Eastport, N.Y.) registered eight kills and two blocks in the middle and Claire Dorr (Massapequa, N.Y.) tacked on three aces from the end line.  Springfield limited the Rams to just a .028 hitting percentage on the evening. 

In the opening set, Springfield trailed by an 17-13 margin, only to put together an 7-2 spurt capped off by an ace from Billet to put the Pride on top, 20-19.  Bancroft would carry the team down the stretch, delivering back-to-back kills to seal the 25-21 win. 

The Pride totaled five aces in the second set, including two early from Dorr, as the Pride seized a 10-5 cushion in the early going. Springfield's lead would balloon to 19-9 on a kill by Labadorf and the Pride would coast to the 25-14 win as it hit .524 in the frame, compared to a -.176 showing by the Rams. 

Both Bancroft and Billet totaled four kills apiece in the third, but the Pride once again faced an early 9-6 deficit.  However, a 7-2 surge by the Pride allowed it to take a 13-11 edge after Bancroft delivered a stuff block. Tanner would put away a ball at 20-16 as Suffolk burned a timeout, and Billet completed the three-game sweep with a kill for the 25-20 win. 

Springfield continues play on Saturday with a pair of matches versus Skidmore and Union.
