Women's Cross Country Posts Top-Ten Finish At UMass Dartmouth Invitational
North Dartmouth, Mass. - September 18, 2021 - Racing for the first time in two weeks, the Springfield College women's cross country team finished in the top ten of the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Springfield finished the afternoon with 272 points as its student-athletes ran their first 5k event of the season, and the top seven all scored inside the top 90.
Highlighting the Pride's efforts in the race was Kathryn Bonanno (Ellington, Conn.) as she ran Springfield's fastest time of the day with a 19:35.30. Bonanno was closely followed by Heather Fontaine's (Brimfield, Mass.) time of 19:37.50 as the duo each finished among the top 50 racers in the event, which featured nearly 240 runners.
Sophie Curcio (New Canaan, Conn.) delivered a time of 19:50.40 and Brenna LaChapelle (Shrewsbury, Mass.) registered a mark of 20:06.90. Shae Gallagher (Middleboro, Mass.) rounded out Springfield's scorers with a 20:16.70, while Elina Olmedo (Wakefield, Mass.) produced a 20:21.60. Springfield's Elizabeth Rose (Storrs, Conn.) clocked in at 20:25.70 and Arianna Vessicchio (Wallingford, Conn.) delivered a 22:24.60.
Next Saturday, Springfield will head to the Berkshires to run in the Purple Valley Classic.
