Women's Cross Country Finishes 10th At Purple Valley Classic
Williamstown, Mass. - September 25, 2021 - The Springfield College women's cross country program competed in the Purple Valley Classic on Saturday for the first time since 2019.
The Pride went up against a loaded field that featured five teams in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Coaches' Poll. Springfield finished 10th with 264 points, which was an imrpovement from their efforts two seasons ago in which they took 12th.
Sophie Curcio (New Canaan, Conn.) came through as Springfield's top finisher in the 6k with another strong performance of 25:56.3, while Heather Fontaine (Brimfield, Mass.) contributed a time of 26:05.1. Marissa Paolangeli (Tolland, Conn.) turned in a time of 26:31.1 as Elizabeth Rose (Storrs, Conn.) followed close behind at 26:37.6. Shae Gallagher (Middleboro, Mass.) rounded out the Pride's top five finishers with a 26:41.2 finish.
Springfield will compete in two weeks at the James Early Invitational on October 9.
